Live from Las Vegas. It's Shop.org!

Thought I'd take a couple minutes out from Shop.org to give you all a recap of what's been going on here at the Annual Summit in Las Vegas.

Surprisingly this year’s attendance has been the highest ever of all the Annual Summits. Even in this economy, retailers, both small and large are looking for ways to help grow their business.  During the keynote presentation, a live poll was conducted where the audience was asked to text in how they felt sales were going to be in the holiday season. It was pretty cool poll where you can see the percentages on the screen jump around when more people texted in.   It was great to see that an overwhelming percent of the participants are very positive about sales in the upcoming months.

Just now I’ve came from a presentation by Terry Lundgren, Chairman, President and CEO of Macys Inc. He talked about how multi-channel integration had been instrumental in their success and they have a few!!!  He listed out retail stores, online shopping site, YouTube videos, makeover contests with Clinton Kelly, Thanksgiving Day Parade (87 years strong!), social media with Facebook and Twitter and social causes with their Come Together campaign targeting domestic hunger with the ongoing focus of raising awareness of HIV and AIDS with their annual Passport fashion show.

Aside from the interesting speakers, it’s been great to meet with sellers of all types. I met with business owner selling fine linens online in the $500 range. I will have to check out her website today.  She's seen her sales increase every year and was looking for ways to grow her business by looking around at the different booths and seeing what programs that Amazon has to offer. She said, "Why wouldn't a seller go to Shop.org? I'm learning so much here. It's great!"  Now if that isn't an endorsement to attend, I don't know what is.  But I hope you like Texas, because the tradeshow will be held there next year.

3 Feed Improvements You’ve Asked For

Your opinion matters.  We’ve taken your feedback and made three important improvements to Product Ads feeds.

•Yahoo Sale price – we’ll now use the “sale price” first and the “price” field second.

•Manufacture Part Number– we’ve added 3 synonyms to minimize errors.  Any of the three combinations (existing form plus two new ones) will work.
•Shipping weight –we now allow a unit of measure

Yahoo Sale price
We’ve expanded the range of price values we are able to accept from Yahoo Store Sync and Yahoo Store file upload.  We will now work through a hierarchy of price decisions.  If you provide a value for “sale price” we will use this as your price displayed on Amazon.com.  If this value is not present, we will use the regular price field.  We will continue to list only one price for each of your products but sale price will be used first for the price displayed to customers on Amazon.com.

Manufacture Part Number synonyms
If your products have a Manufacture Part Number you can include that data in your feed as MPN, Mfr part number, or Manufacture Part Number.   Using any of the three different naming conventions for the field can now be accommodated in your feed.  Remember, including MPN data for your products is important as it helps our system categorize your products easily in search and browse on Amazon.com.

Shipping weight
You now have the option to include a unit of measure in the Shipping weight field. If you calculate shipping costs based on product weight simply add the shipping weight for your product in your product upload. The default unit of measurement for Shipping Weight is LBS (pounds), but you can enter weight in GR (for grams), KG (for kilograms), or OZ (for ounces) by adding any of these specific units of measure to your shipping weight alongside the number in the Shipping Weight field.

Learn more about these improvements here.
